George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road has been widely recognized as a feminist film, with a cast powerful female characters led by Furiosa. By contrast, Max is a bit of question mark. In this video essay, Logos Made Flesh explores some of the symbolism surrounding Max’s quiet character, in order to shed light on his role as a Phoenix, destined to confront the beast, Immortan Joe, by joining forces with Furiosa.
