George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road and Steven Spielberg’s Duel both center on long drawn high-speed chases across vast stretches of desert in which the heroes are pursued by menacing vehicles. In this video essay, Digging Deeper compares the films, illustrating how each uses their premise to comment on the concept of masculinity in the action genre, albeit in very different ways.
