There is no single way to direct action, it’s dictated by a number of factors including the emotion of characters in the scene, the story around it, the given fighting style and of course the performers themselves. Rossatron devotes this video essay to The Raid (2011), demonstrating some of the techniques filmmaker Gareth Evans’s employs to both set up and execute the movie’s near-perfect action sequences.
