From a sofa to a dirt-stain on a window, every object or visual detail in a film has a purpose, thanks to production designers. In this video essay, Inés Lebraud & Luís Azevedo take a look at the comical “Quaalude drug scene” scene from Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street, highlighting how the film’s production designer, Bob Shaw, helped transform a blocking and staging problem into one of the film’s most memorable scenes.
