Wong Kar-wai’s 1994 film Chungking Express tells the story of two separate but parallel relationships that briefly intersect around the midpoint of the film. In part 1 of 2 of this series on the film, Permission to Cinema discusses some of the techniques Wong Kar-wai uses to mirror the complex emotions of the characters in the first story, including Dutch angle, step printing and the recurring motif of time.
