#83. The Sounds of Donnie Darko // Les sons de Donnie Darko

The cult classic Donnie Darko (Richard Kelly, 2001) is a film that uses sound as one of the main sources for its dreamlike anxiety, paranoia and madness. Mainly through the use of ambient sounds and disturbing noises in a “Lynchian” vein – such as low frequencies or electric interference – Kelly creates  a strange and utterly fascinating world. In this video essay, Trois Couleurs takes a rhythmic approach by isolating all these noises so as to recreate Donnie Darko’s “sound universe.”
